Auction evening raises £1,500 for cancer charity

A woman from Rochdale has raised almost £1,500 for Cancer Research UK following a successful fundraising evening.

Erika Greenwood, from Norden, decided to hold an auction evening to raise money for the cancer charity after her grandmother, Ada Brook, passed away following a battle with cancer and her father, Nigel, was diagnosed with the disease last year.

Ms Greenwood, with the support of friends and family, hosted the event at the Brickcroft Social Club and raised just short of £1,500 after auctioning off various prizes which were donated by business from across the borough.

Prizes included photoshoots, sports memorabilia and a spa day. Raffle prizes included meal vouchers and cupcakes.

Ms Greenwood, said: “The aim of the night was to raise as much money as possible.

“It was a fantastic event and it was very successful.

“Between 100 and 150 people turned up throughout the night to show their support.”

She added: “I just want to say a big thank you to everyone – I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Ms Greenwood said she hoped the money raised could “help at least one family” going through what her family has gone through over the past couple of years.

Ms Greenwood is now in the process of planning her next fundraiser – which will be a charity calendar featuring people from Rochdale.
