Diners in for a treat with book give away

Date published: 07 March 2011

Diners at two Rochdale restaurants were in for a treat on Saturday (5 March 2011) – because they were given a free book as part of World Book Night.

Christine Morgan, a volunteer fundraiser for the Rochdale Support group for Marie Curie Cancer Care and her friend, Mary Mills, were giving away copies of The World’s Wife by poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy at The Crimble and Nutters.

Nutters and The Crimble support Marie Curie Cancer Care so when Ms Morgan delivered their Daffodil boxes for the March campaign she asked if they would like to take part in World Book Night too and they both agreed - So on Saturday some lucky people ate well and went home with a book and a daffodil badge.

Ms Morgan said: “I chose The World’s Wife’ as I love poetry and this selection views famous men from myth and history in a wickedly funny way. I was pleased to be able to take part in this great giveaway and everyone offered a book was delighted to accept.”

World Book Night represents the most ambitious and far-reaching celebration of adult books ever attempted in the UK and saw one million books given away by an army of passionate readers.
