Redwood School
We would like to thank all parents/carers for support during the half term clubs. It was a fantastic experience for those youngsters who took part in a variety of activities which were coordinated by David Butterworth and Greta McDonald from Play4U. Thanks to all the staff for their support also.
Parents/carers and pupils in Year 6 from various schools will be receiving our weekly newsletter from now on. It will give an understanding of all the great activities which are taking place at Redwood. We hope to see all our new pupils in the near future as part of the transition programme.
Driving Lessons - Well done to those students in the Bridging Year who are completing a driving skills course. The feedback we are receiving is excellent. What a fabulous opportunity for all those concerned.
Tesco Vouchers -We are collecting vouchers for sports equipment—may we ask you to please send your vouchers into school. Thank you.
International Women’s Day was held on Monday with, female family and friends invited to attend the event. There was a Body Shop display with beauty treatments on offer, a cooking demonstration, an internet and personal safety presentation, health advice along with an opportunity to make new friends and socialise. The day recognised the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. This year’s theme is “Equal access to education, training and science and technology.”
This week 11B visited Spotland library to return their books and take out new ones. They have also been working in class to create an online book about ‘going to the library’ using their own pictures and writing.
The textiles group have been working hard making key and phone covers.
Key 103 have been in to discuss our future online radio station. This is an amazing opportunity and application forms have been given out to all students. The Key 103 bus was in school on Tuesday, students had an opportunity to take part in a variety of activities on the bus - 12 students will be chosen to attend a two day training course at the Key 103 studios. Our first broadcast will go on line in April.
The Life skills group have been cooking crazy and sold lots of biscuits and buns to Oulder Hill students, all profits will be going towards a recreational activity at the end of term. Y11’s have been attending a boxing session every Friday for the last 5 weeks and it has been really successful. The sessions were provided by TYS (Targeted Youth Support). All pupils thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and joined in with enthusiasm.
Bridging Year students will be going for college interviews and we will keep you informed on the outcomes.
Activities have been plentiful in Key Stage 3—Pupils have been treated to a performance by Rochdale Music Service, year 8/9 yellow made 2 volcanoes, 1 dormant and 1 ready to erupt.
William, Raymond and Mitchell all enjoyed their horse riding sessions and year 8/9 Orange visited a Victorian Street in the Portland Basin. A sponsored shoot out was held a short while ago and in recognition of our footballing skills and the money raised, members of the Rochdale Football team attended a special presentation assembly to award prizes. A special recognition award was presented to Thomas D for maturity, behaviour and overall improvement.
Sixth form were visited by The DIY Theatre Group presenting Ellie’s Story. Twenty sixth formers attended the show . A group of 15 visited the Cornerhouse Cinema, Manchester where a film crew gave them the chance to experience and learn all about the film industry. The film that they made will be screened at the 2012 London Olympic opening ceremony. Don’t forget to look out for them.
This week Student of the Week is Daniel W. Daniel is always polite and helpful and works really hard in all sessions. Most Improved Student Thomas F. Thomas has been producing some fabulous work at Falinge CLC and in personal clothing sessions he has been a great help.
