Physical fun at children’s centre

Date published: 07 March 2011

Thirty adults and children attended a special physical fun activity session at Meanwood Sure Start Children’s Centre last week.

Bats, balls, bikes, tunnels, stepping stones and more were on offer to encourage the children to run, skip, balance and crawl.

The aim was to promote the children’s skills through physical activities such as balancing, throwing and kicking.

The two hour Saturday morning session was held so that families with parents who work during the week were able to attend together.

Although activities were aimed at children aged 0 – 5 years old, older brothers and sisters also attended to join in the fun.

Sam O’Neill Senior Early Years Worker said: “This was a great session, in spite of the poor weather. The children had a great time. They were given the opportunity to move freely between indoor and outdoor physical activities that were set up to encourage lots of physical activity in a fun way.

“It was nice to see families who can’t make it to the centre during the week, but do make the most of family time together at the centre at these special weekend sessions.”
