Catering student Marc Rothwell with his award
A student from Hopwood Hall College is preparing for the regional finals of a young chef competition after winning the district heat.
Marc Rothwell is a first year student studying Catering and Hospitality at Hopwood Hall College. He entered the Rotary District Young Chef Competition where contestants had to devise, prepare, cook and present a healthy menu.
The menu Marc devised consisted of Goosnargh chicken, sun blushed tomatoes, wilted spinach and crème fraîche followed by paupiettes of sea bass, herb cous cous, peas and broad beans and finished off with poached pear with sweet chestnut puree, lemon and lime granita.
Not surprisingly, with such a mouthwatering menu, Marc won his heat.
He now goes on to the next stage of the competition to compete in the regional finals; which will be hosted by Hopwood Hall College on the afternoon of Saturday 19 March.
The College’s training restaurant, the Cottons, where Marc has been learning his trade, has a special reader offer:
Lunch - 2 to dine for £15.00 (3 courses with coffee) and
Dinner - 2 to dine for £25.00 (4 courses with coffee) - starting 15 March until 15 April.
