New superintendent for Rochdale

Date published: 03 March 2011

Rochdale has a new superintendent responsible for police operations.

Superintendent John Graves joined Greater Manchester Police in 1983 and started out as a constable in Bury.

He has spent a large part of his career working on the Manchester City Divisions, and has vast experience in heading policing operations at major sporting events, especially football.

He was the English police commander for the UEFA Champions League Final in 2009 in Rome, and has recently been appointed as a commander for overseas fixtures involving the England national team.

Superintendent Graves said: “I am hoping to build on the good work done by my predecessor, Superintendent Martin Greenhalgh, with a view to further reducing crime and antisocial behaviour within our communities.

“Our biggest challenge is to provide a policing service which exceeds the expectations of the public, and I am looking forward to working alongside Chief Superintendent John O’Hare, Rochdale Borough Council and other agencies to provide the best possible service to the people of this borough.”
