Youngsters take part in world record attempt

Date published: 03 March 2011

Children from Belfield Sure Start Children’s Centre, Seeros Private Day Nursery and Belfield School Nursery joined together earlier this week to complete their part of a World Record attempt at a the largest number of children, siblings, parents and carers performing the popular children’s song - head, shoulders, knees and toes – with all the actions in multiple venues across the UK.

At 11am, 49 children, parents and carers joined in the marathon attempt in the hall at Belfield Community School that had to last for five minutes.

Local childminders who meet at Belfield Children’s Centre first came up with the idea to join in the national event at a local level. They approached the children’s centre to join with children from Seeros Private Day Nursery. The school nursery also joined in the fun on the day.

Official witnesses, a photographer and time keeper were on hand to make sure the session went to the Guinness World Record rules, then evidence was sent to I CAN, who organise the annual activity. I CAN, is a national children’s charity that helps children with developing communications skills.

The results from all the venues are now being collated in order to declare the record broken.

A spokesperson for the Belfield Children’s Centre, said: “Singing with all the actions for five minutes was quite a feat and a surprising amount of exercise. Everyone that joined in had lots of fun and it was a great way for the Childminder group to enjoy activities together with the children that they care for.”
