Residents give thumbs up to virtual Town Hall tours

Date published: 02 March 2011

A group of Travel and Tourism students from Hopwood Hall College have been helping Rochdale Council with market research; they were tasked with finding out how many people were interested in Rochdale’s heritage and the possible introduction of a virtual Town Hall tour.

Many of the people questioned said that they didn’t know much about Rochdale’s heritage. However, they did say that they would like to find out more and thought that the virtual Town Hall tour would be a good idea, especially for people who have walking difficulties.

After conducting research in Rochdale Town Centre and Middleton, the students produced a detailed report on their findings.

They also provided a PowerPoint presentation to Tim Nuttall, the Council’s Tourism Officer who said: “The students’ survey will be valuable in deciding how the Town Hall’s tours can be seen by more people.

It’s a fantastic building which tells the story of the Borough’s place in the world.

Making that story more widely available would be ideal.”
