Oulder Hill Community School and Language College

We would like to welcome everyone back after the half term break and remind parents/carers of Year 7 students that parents’ evening takes place in school 4pm – 7pm on Thursday, 10 March. We look forward to seeing you on the night.

We are delighted to report that we have received a thank you letter for the sum of £644.94 which we raised for the Children in Need appeal. We would like to thank our students for all their hard work and generosity in raising this sum.

Just before half term we hosted ‘Oulder Hill’s Got Talent’ in the Gracie Fields Theatre. We would like to congratulate everyone involved for what was a fantastic evening and a huge success. We would also like to thank everyone who came to watch – we really do appreciate the support you gave. Headteacher Mr Watson and Chair of Governors Mrs Tyers - support by students including our Head Girl, Catherine Ayres and Deputy Head Boy, Josh Marsden - judged the competition and reported that the standard was “particularly high this year making judging extremely difficult.” There was a wide variety of different acts on display, testament not only to the talented youngsters we have at Oulder Hill but also the fantastic facilities and staff we have. These acts included singing, dancing (both individual and group) in a variety of styles ranging from ‘Street’ to ‘Bollywood’ and guitarists – there was even a comedy drag act. By popular demand, Amber Heaviside who was last year’s winner, came back to make a guest appearance, singing “Innocence” by Avril Lavigne.

Congratulations to the eventual winner, Year 10 student Rachel Marsden, who performed her street dance despite an injury to her ankle that she sustained during rehearsals. She was determined she would still be able to perform and rejoined the line up at the last minute – this was a fantastic achievement so well done Rachel. She was pushed very close to the title by Year 9 student Rachel Brierley, who sang “Here I am” by Leona Lewis. Kristain Charlesworth and Meryn Crofts also deserve a special mention because they volunteered to fill a slot left by someone who dropped out at the last minute - they only had 24 hours to learn and practice their performance and remarkably pulled together an act that became a serious contender on the night. We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped in the organising of the event – the Young Enterprise group organised and promoted it and many people also worked backstage. It is nights like this that make us really proud of our school and everyone involved with it, made extra special by all the support we get from our fantastic parents.

We would like to say a huge ‘well-done’ to our Year 9 rugby team, who played against a very strong Saddleworth School - Oldham champions and National semi-finalists - just before half term. Although our lads were beaten by an excellent side they played very well and really enjoyed the experience. They are now looking forward to their next fixture which is against Waterhead Academy. Congratulations to the following for being great sports and for representing the school so well: Abdul Shahid, Liam Hagan, Sam Fitton, Connor Fitton, James Haigh, Ben Lee, Daniel Buckley, Ben Ratu, Joe Whitworth, Josh Hughes, Michael Moore, Joe Vandenburg, Sam Gilchrist, Thomas Williams, Anthony Burleigh, Joe Hill and Jack Hadfield.
