The caravans on Hugo Street
A group of travellers have set up on a piece of land on Hugo Street in Castleton.
Residents in the area said that the three caravans arrived on the site last night (Monday 28 February 2011).
Residents on Cross Street, which backs on to Hugo Street, are worried about the arrival of the travellers.
One resident said they had been taking turns to keep look out throughout the night.
Concerns have been raised by people living in houses about the mess that the travellers will leave behind.
Castleton Councillor, Pat Flynn, said: “I feel sorry in my heart for the people living there. The whole area has been blighted.”
A spokesperson for Rochdale Council was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
