Volunteers get gardens ready for summer

Date published: 01 March 2011

Volunteers visited Leonard Cheshire Disability’s Honresfeld on Halifax Road in Littleborough recently to help tidy up the centre’s garden ready for the summer.

The eight volunteers from Finance North West, DWP, worked alongside Leonard Cheshire Disability’s gardener to tidy up the flower beds so the service users can enjoy sitting outside in the summer, they also helped clear the pathways from the top patio area to the lower grounds, making the paths more easily accessible for wheelchair users.

Danielle Turner, Volunteer Coordinator and Activities Enabler at Leonard Cheshire Disability, said: “It’s incredible to see the transformation of the garden and pathways and it will make a huge difference to the service users at Honresfeld. I would like to say a big thank you to the Finance North West at DWP – they worked really hard and have done a wonderful job.”

Keith Glover, one of the volunteers from DWP said: “It was great to make a difference and being able to see a good job done. It was great being able to provide support to a worthy organisation and was a great team effort.”
