The Earth Café’s first event of 2011, ‘Taste of Winter’ has been described as a “resounding success” by the organisers.
The event, held at the Rochdale Labour Club on Saturday (26 February 2011) night, featured home made food and a musical menu of excellent acoustic tunes by two “very impressive” acts.
The purpose of the evening was to bring together members of the community, to promote the Earth Café and to raise some funds towards the development of a new green environment centre and community café for the area.
Guests were treated to music from duo Gareth Bourne and Simon Fearn from Manchester and up and coming group ‘Black Sheep’ from Preston.
The music ranged from exquisite interpretations from Clapton to the Carpenters and from Madonna to Guns and Roses as well as hearing the first public performance of several new songs by ‘Black Sheep’.
Helen McCarthy on behalf of the Earth Café team told the assembled audience about the plans for Earth Café in Rochdale and detailed the events the team would be running throughout the year with a children’s event planned for the spring, the Summer Harvest picnic which had been a big hit in August 2010 and an autumn event.
