Public meeting to discuss Middleton conservation proposals

Date published: 28 February 2011

Plans to revitalise some of Middleton’s most celebrated historic buildings will be top of the agenda next Tuesday when residents are invited to meet planning and conservation officers to have their say.

A meeting is being held at 6.15pm on Tuesday 8 March at the Old Grammar School on Boarshaw Road to discuss the Middleton and Edgar Wood Township Heritage Initiative.
The council have submitted a £2 million bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, which if successful will be spent on restoring some of Middleton’s famous landmarks and enable more local people to enjoy them whilst learning about the towns rich heritage.

Councillor Terry Linden, Cabinet Member for Devolved and Environmental Services said it is important to have a long term vision for the conservation area: “The plans which planning officers consulted residents on last year contain measures to protect and enhance the conservation area. This meeting is a chance to find out more about the proposals and have your say on the future of the conservation area. It is important that we have a coherent plan, and now is the time to talk about it and think about how it will work … we have some fantastic heritage to be proud of and I want to encourage as many local people as possible to be involved in its future.”

There will be a presentation at 6.30pm followed by a chance to ask the Conservation Officer and Township Heritage Initiative assistant about the plans. Light refreshments will be available from 6.15pm.

Copies of the re-drafted Management Plan are available at www.rochdale.gov.uk/planning or from Jubilee Library, and the Township Office at Sadler Street.
