A group of young people from across the borough started their half term by viewing a short film they have been working on.
The nine youngsters, who are users of the Connections Trust on Drake Street, joined together today (Monday 21 February 2011) to watch the film.
Today is the first time the group have seen the film since they shot it.
The boys and girls, aged between 10 and 14, attended 12 hour work shops working with John Farrington and Steve Cooke from Peace Effects Media.
The focus of the project was about preventing and resolving conflict.
The group’s film was called ‘A peaceful life for us’ and it was about feeling good and how when a person feels good they won’t pick an argument or ‘kick off’ with their parents, teachers or friends.
The film was made by Katie Turton, Ryan Simister, Declan Wild, Harriet Duffy, Reece Jordan, Danielle Brasher, Lewis Brearley and Lucas and Lace Blair.
The film, was expected to be five minutes long, today the group learnt that some of the sound they had recorded wasn’t of a good enough quality to use, leaving it at two minutes, so they discussed how to go forward.
Mr Farrington explained to the youngsters that the sound problems are an example of the “real world.”
The group decided they would do a voice over on the footage they have already got instead of filming everything again.
The film will be edited further and then showcased in various locations by Peace Effects Media. Each member of the group will also receive a final copy of the DVD to show off wherever they want.
A second group of young people who were unable to attend the exhibition today called their film ‘Not kicking off’ the short piece was focused around a football game and resolving problems at the match.
