Oulder Hill Community School and Language College

Date published: 19 February 2011

School is now closed for the half term holiday. We reopen at the normal time on Monday 28 February. We would like to wish everyone a happy and relaxing break. When we return from the half-term break students will be looking at Fairtrade issues as part of Fairtrade Fortnight by participating in activities both in and out of the classroom. The aim of this is to raise awareness of the issues facing producers in developing countries.

We would like to thank everyone who supported ‘Oulder Hill’s Got Talent’ which took place in the Gracie Fields Theatre on Thursday. I am sure you will agree that not only do we have fantastic facilities and staff to help us nurture our gifted youngsters, but we also have some amazing young people at the school who have such a vast array of talent. This extends not only to those performers who took part in the finals and all the others that entered in the first place, but also members of the Young Enterprise group who organised and promoted the event. More details about the acts and winners will follow after half term.

We would like to congratulate Year 11 Catering student Megan Buckley who has received the ‘Best Achiever’ award from Hopwood Hall College. As many of you will know, some of our Year 10 and 11 students follow a Catering course that is delivered both at Oulder Hill and at the college. This is a fantastic achievement for Megan and testament to her hard work and dedication – this was awarded to Megan by Hopwood Hall staff in recognition of her exceptionally high levels of achievement.

Congratulations to our highest achieving forms for week commencing 31st January 2011. Forms 8A and 10J achieved a staggering 100% attendance, meaning that not one member of the form had any time off that week. We would also like to say a huge well done to forms 7D, 9E and 11A for nearly matching this, each achieving 99% attendance. No wonder Oulder Hill has the highest attendance out of all the secondary schools in Rochdale.
