Workers lobby outside Town Hall
Date published: 10 February 2011
Around fifty people gathered outside Rochdale Town Hall this evening (Thursday 10 February 2011) prior to the Budget Cabinet meeting to lobby Councillors.
The groups, who said they were not protesting, but were lobbying, had placards reading ‘save our services’ peacefully stood outside the doors to the Town Hall.
Helen Harrison from UNISON, said: “We are here to make the Councillors aware that we have not gone away.”
Speaking about the new Labour council, Ms Harrison said: “It is more optimistic than it was.
“But everybody is wondering if they will be the next one, they are worried for their jobs, their finances and their families.
“The people who choose to work in local government care about their local services.”
