Cadets smash record for Poppy Appeal

Date published: 08 February 2011

More than 4,000 Sea, Army and Air cadets from Greater Manchester have raised £113,000 for the Poppy Appeal and money is still pouring in.

Greater Manchester is set to retain its title as the area that achieves the ‘highest amount raised by any cadet force in the UK’.

Greater Manchester County Manager for The Royal British Legion, Jeff Harrison said: “We have already surpassed last year’s total and there are several cadet units still to be included.

“Our young cadets are a credit to themselves and the uniforms they wear, they work tirelessly distributing the poppies throughout their areas giving up many hours to a charity they believe deeply in.

“We are all facing financial hard times and therefore we are particularly grateful to the public for giving so generously raising a record breaking total for the Poppy Appeal, which is a 40 per cent increase from last years.”
