Make a difference…be at the heart of tenants’ services

Date published: 04 February 2011

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) is offering its tenants the opportunity to understand and positively challenge what it does by joining a new scrutiny panel.

The establishment of the scrutiny panel is part of RBH’s bid to keep customers views, aspirations and priorities at the heart of its operations.

Assistant Director of Operations, Jane Allen said: “This is an exciting new development for RBH and its tenants. It presents a real opportunity for people to become actively involved in developing and improving the service we provide.”

The panel, which will have the power to carry out assessments on any area of service, will be recognised within the governance structures of the organisation, working alongside the Board, Executive Management Team, officers and stakeholders as well as being accountable to the wider customer body.

Ms Allen added: “Members will be provided with the opportunity to learn new skills that will personally be of great benefit to them.”

All members of the panel will receive full training and will be sufficiently empowered and supported to carry out a full range of scrutiny activities.

Findings and recommendations resulting from the work will be reported to the RBH Board.

The panel has been created by RBH with the assistance of Phil Morgan, an independent advisor who has helped develop Tenant Scrutiny nationally.

The panel will consist of a maximum of twelve tenants; the role is voluntary and unpaid although RBH will pay appropriate expenses and offer computer equipment, where appropriate, to be used for the term of membership.

RBH tenants interested in finding out more about are invited to drop into the RBH offices at The Old Post Office, The Esplanade, Rochdale for a quick 10 minute chat on any of the following dates:

  • Monday 7 February, 10 -12pm
  • Saturday 12 February, 10 -12pm
  • Tuesday 15 February, 2:30 - 3:30pm

The sessions will give people the opportunity to meet a tenant Board member, RBH staff and Phil Morgan to find out more about how tenant scrutiny can work.
