Fundraiser for "amazing" young man

The friends of a Rochdale man who passed away over the weekend are planning a fundraising event in his memory.

Danny Wilson, 22, of Syke, died on Sunday – now friends are clubbing together to hold an event to raise money for his family.

Danny played for Syke FC and on Sunday (6 February 2011) the club’s first and second teams will go head to head in a fundraising game at the Mayfield Sports Centre in Castleton.

Kick off for the match is 12 noon and the entry fee is £2 all funds will be given to Danny’s family.

There will also be a raffle and an auction at the club house in the evening.

David Chisnall of Syke FC, will be refereeing the game, he described Danny as a popular lad, adding “he was the life and soul of the party.”

A tribute posted on the Syke FC website on Sunday read: “Danny Wilson aged 22 sadly passed away earlier today. He will be sadly missed by all his team mates and friends. All of our thoughts at this time go to his family and closest friends. R.I.P Danny you will be missed by everyone. Syke Football Club will not be the same again.

Hundreds of tributes for Danny have also been posted on the social networking site, Facebook.

Almost 2,000 people have joined a page called “RIP Danny Wilson” and have posted tributes on the site.

Gerry Hoyle wrote: “Would give anything to speak to you again one last time and I promise I will try and leave you a message every single day. I miss you more and more as every minute passes without you here, night Dan.”

Emma Louise Ashton, added: “R.I.P Danny. I can't believe it! You were such a good guy! I am proud to say you were one of my mates. I am going to well miss you. Sleep tight Danny! Lots of love.”

Nicole Adshead said Danny was “amazing” she wrote: “You were too good to be taken, you were amazing. You always made everything seem possible but this seems almost impossible to get through! We might not be able to see you but doesn't mean we can’t speak to you. I am going to put a smile on my face just for you because no matter what was going on you ALWAYS kept that cheeky smile on your face. Rest in peace Danny, you will be missed by everyone.”

One comment, posted by Yazii Fitton, said: “Just come back and give us all a cheeky smile, it’s just what everyone needs right now.”

Another, posted by Rhys O’Donovan reads: “You are one in a million pal. It was a privilege to meet you. Everyone is going to miss you deeply. Love you mate.”
