Rochdale based drama wins TV award

Hit television drama series, Waterloo Road, left the National Television Awards last night (Wednesday 26 January) with an award for ‘Most Popular Drama.’

The drama series is based on a fictional school in Rochdale, called Waterloo Comprehensive, whose long-suffering headmaster has a nervous breakdown in series one, and the deputy head, played by Jason Merrells who reluctantly takes his place. He tries to turn the school of misfits around, bit by bit.

Denise Welch stars in this contemporary drama set at Hilltop Primary School, Kirkholt, in Rochdale that has been running since 2006.
