Community Hub restored as part of project
Date published: 26 January 2011
‘The Hub’ community facility in Falinge has been renovated by a group of young volunteers across Rochdale recently.
The young people were taking part in the voluntary development and training course, Groundwork Prince’s Trust Team, and the course took 13 weeks. As part of their Community Project module, the team decided to improve the overall look of ‘The Hub’.
The work included litter picking, building planters, preparing woodwork to be painted, painting the doors inside the community gym. They also installed flower beds and a range of plants, despite the cold weather.
Lisa Daly, Prince’s Trust Team leader at Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “I am very proud of all the hard work that Rochdale Team R89 have put into the project. They have managed to deliver excellent fundraising events, which enabled the team to carry out the project.”
The Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale’s Prince’s Trust Team programme is there to support people aged 16-25 for 13 weeks, and they take part in various activities that have been designed to improve their communication, confidence and team working skills.
The three week Community Project module is a central part of the programme, and projects are designed to benefit from the community by improving local areas or community assets. The team will now embark on their two week voluntary work placements to further enhance their skills.
The next Groundwork Prince’s Trust Team in Rochdale borough starts on Monday 21 February at Hopwood Hall College - Middleton Campus.
