Park receives cash bonus
Date published: 26 January 2011
Balderstone Park is to receive a cash injection thanks to local Councillors.
The bid for funding was put forward to the Rochdale Township Resources Committee by the Councillors who represent the Balderstone and Kirkholt area - Councillors Dale Mulgrew, Pat Colclough and Liz Thirsk.
The cash injection is £27,000, which comes on the back of last year’s £50,000 investment on play equipment.
The parks perimeter fencing will now be completed.
By finishing off an important aspect to the park's appearance ensures that another step has been reached in Balderstone Park's development.
Councillor Mr Collcough, who also is a member of the Friends of Balderstone Park Group, said, "I am really pleased that as local councillors we have been able to win this additional investment for the park.
"After years of neglect, we are supporting all endeavours to make Balderstone Park an excellent local community facility once again. This grant also compliments the work of the park's friends group; they are a committed and dedicated group of local residents who really want to see the park succeed."
Colin Mottershead, the Chairman of the Friends of Balderstone Park, added: "The Friends group welcomes this extra investment to the park and as we continue to secure funding and arrange events we would urge local people to both enjoy the park and help in making these obvious improvements. The Friends of Balderstone Park meet each third Monday in the month at Balderstone library 6pm."
