New bus service welcomed
Date published: 26 January 2011
A new daytime bus service will commence shortly that will serve both sides of Queensway.
The operator of this new 431 service is Rochdale based bus company - Coachmasters.
The replacement service from First now only travels in one direction and only partially up Queensway. Whereas the new 431 service will provide an hourly service that will cover the entire Queensway neighbourhood.
The service will follow a Rochdale town centre to Castleton circular route from the 31 January.
This new service will respond to the demands from Queensway bus users who were at a loss when the previous bus service, which served both sides of Queensway, was terminated by the First bus company last autumn.
Councillor Mulgrew said: "I welcome this new bus service operated by an enterprising, local bus company. I am particularly pleased that Coachmasters have been able to respond to cover the gaps left by the removal of the previous service."
"This means that the new bus will be really helpful to residents who live on the side of Queensway that has had no service for a number of months. This is especially significant to residents of an advanced age who live at Ian Fraser Court and residents from Stoneyvale Court."
"I hail this has a good move. I now hope that Queensway residents will fully get behind this new service and support it, so that it has the opportunity to become established."
