Fundraiser prepares for charity trek

Date published: 25 January 2011

A Rochdale man is preparing for trek to raise money for a children’s charity.

Bob Chadwick, 49, has signed up for the Charity Challenge to take the alternative Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.

Mr Chadwick will embark on the trek to raise money for the Child Voices Appeal, which works with ChildLine and the NSPCC.

He has to raise a minimum of £3,000 and is almost half way towards his target, and has £1,400 raised from a variety fundraising events.

Mr Chadwick will go to Peru later on in the year (14 October 2011) and is looking forward to the trek.

“I’ve done lots of charity events, like stalls in Christmas markets, and last October I held a soul night at the Riverside in Whitworth.

“I haven’t done any training, but I do lots of walks in The Lakes.

“In July I will be doing something similar to the trek with a group of friends. Namely walking 10 to 12 miles a day for 5 days in the Lake District.”

Mr Chadwick also mentioned that he isn’t looking forward to the high altitude, as apparently it is hard to breathe, so instead of striding along and having no problems, they will be trudging along and possibly facing problems such as altitude sickness.

“I’ve always wanted to go to Peru, so now I can go and it’s for an important cause,” says Mr Chadwick.

In order to raise some more money, Mr Chadwick is holding a racing event at Norden Cricket Club, where videos of horse races have been selected at random, and those that attend will bet on which horse wins. The winners will be entered into the final and have the chance of winning a £75 prize. There will also be a raffle and a potato pie supper.

The first race starts at 7.30pm, but anyone wishing to attend is free to turn up at any time, admission is free.

Any donations towards Mr. Chadwick’s Peruvian trek will be gratefully accepted, and to donate all you need to do is visit http://www.justgiving.com/bobsincachallenge/
