A reminder to parents/carers of Year 9 students that Options Evening takes place on Thursday 27 January. The evening, which will start at 6.30pm, will provide much of the essential information in order to make informed choices about the subjects to choose for study in Years 10 and 11. There will be a short presentation from senior staff in the Theatre at 6.30pm – please aim to arrive earlier than this in order to find a parking space and a seat in the Theatre. This talk will be repeated at 7.30pm for those unable to make the earlier time.

A huge well done to forms 7A, 7J and 10H for achieving 100% attendance last week, closely followed by forms 8A and 11F on 99%.

Good luck to ‘Company Flex’ - our boys’ dance company – who will be performing at the Lowry Theatre in Salford on Sunday 13 February as part of the ‘Signatures Youth Dance Showcase.’ The boys will also be performing later in the year at the Rochdale Borough Boys Dance Festival on Sunday 10 April in The Gracie Fields Theatre.

This Tuesday, Year 9 students Daniel Harrall, Luke Barret, Abdul Shahid and Alex Maughan will represent our school and Rochdale Schools in the Greater Manchester Schools Badminton Championship in Manchester. Good luck boys – we look forward to reporting on the results and are sure you will do well.

Several of our students rowed themselves to exhaustion last week in the Rochdale Rowing Championships, some of them rowing in two age groups. It was especially pleasing as many of the students are not usually involved in representing the school in other sporting events. The students that took part were, from Year 7: Nixon Mandigo, Tri Nguyen, Matthew Marcantonatos and Ryan Jay. From Year 8: Sonny Nelson and Rehan Mazhar. From Year 9: Sufwan Moghul, Mohammed Awais and Hasan Farooq. From Year 10: Adil Haroon and Sean Borg. From Year 11: Ahmid Karamat, Yousuf Ahmed and Ben Johnson. Notable performers included Sean Borg, who won Gold and is therefore Rochdale’s Individual Champion. Also, Ahmid, Yousuf, Ben and Sean got runner-up medals in the team relay. A fantastic achievement – well done to all.

Continuing the sporting theme we would like to congratulate our Under 14 girls’ football team who beat Kingsway Park by 4 goals to nil last week. This means that they finished fourth overall in their league. The team were Danielle Beasley, Emma Pendlebury, Demi Hogarth, Katie Turton, Aroosa Hussain, Alivia Marshall, Sophie Byrne and Rayanne Clarke. The team played some great football and really enjoyed it. The player of the match was Rayanne Clarke.

The following students represented the school in the Greater Manchester Schools Basketball Championships recently: Connor Fitton, Sam Fitton, Junaid Chowdry, Ayub Majid, Abdul Shahid, Usman Mohammed, Michael Moore, Anthony Burleigh and Alex Maughan. The team played against Wright Robinson High School, Derby High School, Audenshaw High School and Albion High School. Although they won only one of their four group games (which was against Audenshaw High School) they played really well and showed exemplary attitude and commitment, and were a credit to themselves and the school.
