Recycle your real Christmas tree

Date published: 12 January 2011

There is still time to recycle your real Christmas tree at one of Rochdale council’s Christmas tree recycling points. But hurry – they’re only open until Monday 17 January.

The council has 26 Christmas tree collection points still open across the borough where you can drop off your real tree so it can be chipped down and used for things like mulch around our parks and countryside.

Last year, 4,000 real Christmas trees were recycled in Rochdale.

The council understands people may be struggling to dispose of real Christmas trees following the decision to suspend garden waste collections over the winter season as part of its efforts to save money. But, the council hopes the Christmas tree recycling points will prove a useful way to help people dispose of their real Christmas trees conveniently and responsibly.

Councillor Terry Linden, the new Cabinet Member for Devolved and Environmental Services, said: “Christmas tree recycling points are convenient for local people to drop off their real used Christmas trees and they help people do something positive for the local area too. Thank you to everyone who’s recycled their tree already. Our parks and countryside will reap the benefits.”
