New appeal as attacked shopworker loses sight in eye

Date published: 02 January 2011

Detectives are renewing their appeal to catch two teenagers who attacked a shopworker in Middleton.

Around 6pm on Tuesday 30 November 2010, the 48-year-old victim was working at a shop on Wood Street when two teenagers went in.

They demanded money from the till and when they were unable to force open the till they set upon the victim.

The man fell against a shelf causing a fractured cheek and ruptured eye socket.

It has now been confirmed that he will never regain the sight in the eye that was damaged.

The boys, described as white, 16 to 17 years old, with local accents and wearing dark clothing ran out of the shop.

Detective Constable Russ Clarke of Rochdale CID said: "The victim in this case has sustained injuries which will affect him for the rest of his life.

"I'm appealing to anyone who knows who has done this to think about that man and do the right thing by calling police.

"I would ask anybody who saw anything suspicious in the area around 6pm that night or if you saw the offenders going into or leaving the shop to please come forward and assist the police".

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8581 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
