Man arrested over town centre car horror

Date published: 17 October 2010

A man has been arrested following the major incident in Rochdale Town Centre in the early hours of Sunday morning, which has left 14 people in hospital with injuries including one with a fractured skull.

Though not confirmed by the police, it is understood the man arrested is a 26-year-old local man and was the passenger in the car that was driven along the pavement for about 100-200 yards hitting many people in its path.

At around 2.00am a Saab with two men inside drove at door staff outside the Dali Bar on Packer Street. It is thought that the men in the car had earlier been refused entry to the club.

Twenty five people were taken to hospitals in Oldham, Bury and Manchester with 14 being admitted and 11 discharged.

A stolen Saab car, believed to have been involved in the incident, was found on Albert Royds Street at about 4.20am.
