Heywood Residents Backing England for Glory
Date published: 09 June 2006
Residents of Brayshaw Close in Heywood are showing their support for England at the World Cup which begins today, Friday 9 June, with England’s first game being played tomorrow at 2pm. The Neighbours joined forces to put flags up across the entire road and the result is a street that would make Sven’s boys proud.
It all started when residents Mark Goodall and Darrel Mohan decided to emphasise their support for the home nation at the last World Cup in 2002, when they decided to fly the Cross of St.George outside their homes. The result is now a full blown street party with a plethora of flags criss-crossing the street and adorning the houses.
Mark explained how the idea has gone from strength to strength since 2002, “We put some flags up for the World Cup 2002, then others joined in for Euro 2004. Now more or less all the neighbours have joined in.”
The Brayshaw Close residents have done their bit for the nation, now it’s up to the football team to bring the World Cup back home and do the street justice!
