England recorded a deserved but nervous win over Slovenia to book their place in the last 16.
Jermain Defoe marked his recall to the side by giving England the lead, getting ahead of his marker to volley in James Milner's right-wing cross.
Steven Gerrard and Defoe missed superb chances and Wayne Rooney hit a post as England dominated throughout.
But Fabio Capello's side must settle for second place in Group C after the United States beat Algeria 1-0.
