Councillor accused of arrogance over Heywood claim

Date published: 07 August 2006

The councillor for Heywood North, Councillor Brian Davies has criticised Liberal Democrat councillor for the same ward, Peter Rush, for the explanation offered after his poor conduct at a recent council meeting.

Councillor Davies explained that he had resisted commenting on Councillor Rush's "moment of madness", however he could not let go a slur aimed at other Heywood councillors. He said: "I have resisted commenting on Councillor Peter Rush's 'moment of madness' as Liberal Democrat agent David Hennigan so aptly put it. I am however staggered at Councillor Rush's arrogance at his claim that Heywood  did not even merit a mention prior to his arrival. If bad manners, an appalling lack of respect for the Mayor, whom he recently accused of lacking humility, for members of the public and for officers is what we are to see from Councillor Rush in the future then Heywood may well get more mention. Councillor Rush I suspect is the only one who views this with apparent pride."

Councillor Rush caused uproar in the Council Chamber at the full council meeting on Wednesday 26 July when he stuck two fingers up at the Labour and Conservative benches:
