Time for a refresher?
Date published: 12 May 2010
If you passed your driving test over 30 years ago you’ll probably know that the roads have changed a bit since then. In fact, the Highway Code has changed considerably, with new style pedestrian crossings, changes in speed limits, new traffic calming measures and priority changes in traffic flow.
A new driver refresher course is available to bring your knowledge up to date and provide useful information that hopefully will help to prolong your driving years. The next course is on Wednesday 9 June, at 10am at Rochdale Town Hall.
Impact Partnership’s road safety team in partnership with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and the Institute of Advanced Motorist (IAM) are offering the refresher course to any driver who has been driving for more than 30 years. The course is 2 hours long and available free of charge.
Jacqui Hogg, road safety officer for Impact, said: “For many drivers as we all get older, the car can be our only form of independence. So, the refresher course offers information about how to prolong that independence by giving the latest Highway Code information and tips on helpful equipment available.”
The refresher course includes all aspects of driving, such as changes to roundabouts, new gyratory systems, and pedestrian crossings. The course also covers advice on equipment that can be purchased to help eliminate ‘blind spots’.
The refresher course has been running throughout the Borough for the last couple of years and has been very well received by all those who have attended. With positive feedback received; “Included good reminders, tips and made me more road aware. Thoroughly enjoyed it and well worthwhile”.
After the presentation drivers are offered the opportunity to book an assessment drive, with a fully trained observer from the IAM.
Tea and coffee will be available.
The course is free of charge but places need to be booked prior to the event - contact Jacqui Hogg
