Middleton man to be ordained in Manchester Cathedral

Date published: 12 May 2010

A Middleton man is among 17 people from parishes around Greater Manchester who will be welcoming newly-ordained clergy this week as candidates are ordained Priest by the Bishop of Middleton.

David Brooks of St. Leonard, Middleton with St. John, Thornham will be become an Ordained Local Minister.

Eight men and nine women from a diverse range of backgrounds will take their oaths during a special service before beginning their new ministries in the Diocese of Manchester. They will spend three nights on “silent retreat”, in prayerful preparation for this new stage in their lives.

Candidates have been trained at Theological Colleges around the country, as well as through the Northern Ordination Course and Ordained Local Ministry training courses based in Manchester.

The Bishop of Middleton, the Rt Revd Mark Davies, said: “Manchester is a city with a strong tradition of ordaining committed men and women who will serve in our diverse communities. Ordination recognises and celebrates the exciting way God is at work in his church, calling men and women to serve him in new and surprising ways.”
