Hollingworth Lake crowned best place to picnic

Date published: 09 May 2010

Hollingworth Lake and Country Park in Rochdale has been crowned the best place to picnic in the North West region by Britain’s favourite family bakers Warburtons.

Hundreds of people cast their votes over the last couple of weeks for the site, situated on Rakewood Road, in the 2010 Warburtons Picnic Awards.

The awards were held in the run up to National Bread Week (3-9th May) which celebrated the Great British Picnic and the Great British outdoors.

Warburtons representative, Duncan Lees at Warburtons Burnley bakery, said: “The Warburtons Picnic Awards 2010 was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate one of our great British traditions.

“Hollingworth Lake Country Park is thought of with great affection within the local community and across the UK as a truly beautiful landmark park. It is certainly deserving of its best place to picnic in the North West round of voting.”

Commenting on the win Eleanor Sherwin, ranger at Hollingworth Lake Country Park said: “We are delighted to have won the competition and are very proud – we were up against some stiff competition across the region.”

The park wins £500 and will be presented with a commemorative plaque from Warburtons. Hollingworth Lake Country Park has now been entered into the national competition and is in with the chance of winning National Picnic Spot of the Year.
