Date published: 23 August 2006

Detectives in Rochdale are appealing for information following a report that a 25-year-old woman was raped in Heywood on Saturday 19 August.

The 25-year-old had been enjoying a night out with a friend and had visited several pubs in Heywood. The last pub they went into was the New Vic pub on Rochdale Road.

The woman left the pub without her friend and it is believed that later that night, the woman was raped.

At this stage it is not known exactly when or where the rape occurred but police are asking anybody who knows anything about this incident, or who saw anybody behaving suspiciously in or around the New Vic pub on Saturday night to contact Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4644 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Anyone who has been the victim of a rape or sexual assault can contact Greater Manchester Police's Project Nightingale. Trained officers are available to provide professional advice and guidance on how an investigation may proceed and the support services that are available. Project Nightingale can be contacted at St Mary's Sexual Assault Centre on 0161 276 6515.
