Super-fast broadband roll out
Date published: 10 April 2010
BT has recently announced the next locations where it will make super-fast fibre-based broadband services available, including areas covered by Rochdale and Littleborough telephone exchanges. Around 42,000 people in the area will be able to benefit.
Super-fast fibre-broadband will allow residents to run bandwidth hungry services such as high definition (HD) films, online gaming or quickly post videos and pictures online.
Paul Rowen MP said: “I welcome this announcement that means that so many households in Rochdale will be able to enjoy high speed internet services.
The internet is a vital resource. It allows people to communicate, access essential information and enjoy entertainment online.
It is great news that Rochdalians will be able to benefit from super-fast internet in the near future.”
This improvement is the latest chapter in BT's £1.5 billion investment programme to make fibre-based broadband available to 40 per cent of the UK - or some 10 million homes - by summer 2012. More than 300 new locations across the UK are included in the announcement and BT expects to reach 4 million premises by the end of 2010.
