Rowen working to safeguard community pubs

Date published: 08 April 2010

Paul Rowen has stepped up his campaign to support the pub industry in the local area.

Throughout the election campaign, Mr Rowen has said he will be striving to meet real ale drinkers, pub goers and licensees in Rochdale to hear about the issues that matter to them and to discuss why pubs play such a vital role to the surrounding community.

Recently, Mr Rowen committed to The Campaign for Real Ale’s five commitments to support real ale, community pubs and consumer rights. He pledged to:

  • Promote the interests of Britain’s pub goers
  • Champion well-run community pubs
  • Support the re-balancing of alcohol taxation to support beer and pubs
  • Press for reform of the ‘beer tie’ to deliver a fair deal for consumers
  • Support the role of well-run pubs as solutions to alcohol misuse

Mr Rowen said: “Community pubs are at the heart of communities across the UK, and make a huge contribution to their local economy. I am proud to be speaking up for pubs in the Rochdale area, and I pledge to support community pubs, real ales and consumers.’
