Cancer charity takes over night sitting service
Date published: 08 April 2010
Fears that a night sitting service that provides round-the-clock care for seriously ill people being outsourced to a the Marie Curie cancer charity is a cost cutting exercise that may lead to patients no longer being eligible to receive the service have been allayed by NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.
A spokesperson on behalf of Rochdale Borough Council and NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, commented: “In order to properly meet the needs of patients and carers, the current Night Sitting service will undergo a slight change from April.
“NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale has commissioned Marie Curie to provide nursing care, this is more appropriate for people with complex health needs and ensure they receive the best possible care. In cases where a person is assessed as having social care needs, Rochdale Council Adult Services will provide appropriate care on a case by case basis.”
