Knowldale Car Club Navigational Rally
Date published: 08 April 2010
Last Friday evening saw the start of the Knowldale Car Club navigational rally championship - 12 cars set out from Birch Services, on the M62, on the 38 mile route round Rochdale, Ramsbottom and Bury.
Using standard road going cars, the event is designed to use navigational techniques, used on may of the top rally's in the country to navigate the road sections between rally stages. but on this event crews had to solve simple clues along the route, to prove they had traversed the correct route.
"This is a good starting ground to involve anyone interested in motorsport", said Steve Warrington, the event organiser, "it's good fun, families can get involved and it introduces some of the requirements needed to do rallying, but without having to have a specially built car and equipment", he added.
All twelve crews made it back to the finish, though some got a little lost on route!
The winner was Steve Tweedale, who takes maximum points into the next round in May.
