'Rochdale FC I love you'
Date published: 03 April 2010
A mystery Rochdale singer and songwriter has recorded a song for Rochdale Football Club with the help of the Backdoor Music Project.
The song, titled ‘Rochdale FC’ is sang to the tune of the 1965 hit ‘Rose Marie’ by Slim Whitman.
The singer has asked to be called the 'Rochdale Cowboy' and hopes that the song will be a hit with the fans and also help the Backdoor Music Project in their appeal not to lose their home at the Broadwater Centre.
“I wrote the song as a tribute to Rochdale Football Club for all they have achieved this season", said the Rochdale Cowboy.
“On the day I went to do the recording I read on Rochdale Online that the council is planning on knocking down the Backdoor Music Project and building a department store.
“It was suggested that this track could also be used for their appeal to stay open. I agreed and am very happy for that to happen,” said the mystery singer.
The Rochdale Cowboy added: “This is a kind of project that young people should be encouraged to take part. They should keep it where it is.”
The song was recorded in two takes and the final touches will be added over the Easter weekend.
The next step now the recording is completed is a video which will be posted on You Tube in the next few weeks - so that fans can hear the song before their final game of the season on 1 May.
At the moment Rochdale don’t have their own anthem. Several fans have told the cowboy it is a great idea to record the song then they can have their own anthem.
“If I can get the fans singing along and help the Backdoor Music Project that is great and I will have done my job,” said the cowboy.
Lyrics:
Rochdale FC I love you
There is no team above you
No matter what you do I´ll still support you
Spotland is the ground that I report to
And yet if you should lose to
Another team I´ll still be there
Of all the teams in all the land I choose you
You´ll do me Rochdale FC
