MARCH ECO NEWS
Mobile Phones
Thank you for sending in the mobile phones to be recycled. The prizes have now arrived in School and will be distributed this week.
We will be sending out the next leaflet after Easter, so please continue to collect them.
Poster Competition
Well done to Aidan and Clarissa Street for designing the winning poster. The poster will be displayed in School to remind people to look after School resources and be more resourceful.
Earth Hour
The Eco committee lead a whole School assembly on Friday 26 March, which highlighted the reasons for Earth Hour. As a School we then switched off all the lights and computers between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
Leading Aspect Award
We are hoping to achieve a Leading Aspect Award in Sustainable Schools and Outdoor Learning. The assessors will be visiting our School on 30th April, keep your fingers crossed for us.
Aquaponics
We are trialling an Aquaponics system in School. This involves fish and plants. The water is pumped through a system whereby the water from the fish feeds the plants. The fish waste is converted, by friendly microbes on clay beads, into plant nutrients. The water is oxygenated by the flow and cleaned by the plants. The fish feed on algae growing in the water and a small amount of fish food. We are currently growing salad leaves, herbs and watercress. Hopefully we will soon have some strawberries.
