Stay safe at Lake Fair

Date published: 29 March 2010

Hollingworth Lake’s annual lake fair begins on Thursday 1 April and will run over the 10 days.

The Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to wish all fair goers a fun but safe time at this family event.

Inspector Jem Davies for the Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This popular annual family event attracts a number of visitors into the area each year and this is great to see.

“We don’t want anyone’s day to be ruined by becoming a victim of crime so I would like to remind people to keep valuables out of sight and keep children supervised at all times.

“I also want to give a stern warning to anyone wanting to disrupt the event to stay away as we won’t tolerate anyone trying to spoil this great family day out.

“Could I also take this opportunity to remind motorists to park their vehicles in areas allocated for the event instead of the residential roads close to the lake.”

During the fair extra officers will be out to patrol the area and reassure the community.

Police worked with partners including, Hollingworth High School, Wardle High School and Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College in an effort to deter incidents of anti-social behaviour during the fair. The work includes letters being issued to parents to make them aware of local problems and any actions that will be taken should any offences be committed.

Inspector Davies, said: “The youth services team has a list of activities for youngsters to take part in. These can be found via the council website and I would encourage all youngsters and their parents to take a look to see what is happening in their area.”

The Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public of the local drinking bylaws that relate to drinking in a public place. Officers will be adopting a zero tolerance approach to ensure the smooth running of the event.
