Deeplish Primary School

Deeplish Primary School.
Football crazy! That’s how it seemed this week when our budding Beckhams and Rooneys showed off their skills during the week. Representatives from Rochdale Football Club came in to school to teach our children new skills, culminating in a sponsored penalty shoot out on Thursday. Proceeds from this event will be split between the Football Club and school.
Our Foundation Stage children had a busy week this week. Not only did they take part in the football event, they also welcomed 4 legged visitors from Greater Manchester Police Force. Two sniffer dogs called Blaze and Bobbie visited school to meet the children and to show off their searching skills. The children learned how the dogs are cared for and how they play.
Children in our reception classes carried on with their busy week when they went to see animals on an urban farm in Bolton. What a fabulous day they had. Everyone came away exhausted but very happy!
Year 6 had another Science outing on Tuesday when, yet again, they took advantage of the excellent facilities at Balderstone High School. Thank you, Balderstone, for making us feel so welcome.
The Year 5 Rochdale South Children’s Forum met again this week at Balderstone High School to share opinions.
Our Year 5 children carried on the Community Cohesion project when half of them welcomed children from Elmwood Primary in Middleton to Deeplish School and the other half went to the Middleton school. The children have never met each other but have been communicating by letter and DVD. It was nice for them to meet in person. Thank you to our Mr Lyons and the Elmwood staff for the hard work involved in organising this. We are looking forward to further events!
The dining hall was very busy on Wednesday when parents and school governors were invited to sample a school meal and sit with Deeplish children during the lunch hour. It was a wonderful experience for all and the feedback from parents and governors was very positive. Thank you, Mrs Doolan, school cook, and your hard working team for the excellent food and service you provided.
Attendance Awards this week went to Mrs Akhtar’s and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Early Birds were Mrs Akhtar’s, Mrs Afzal’s and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Amaan and Aneesah won the 100% attendance prizes.
