Website boost for Independent candidate

Date published: 29 March 2010

Frank Salt, Independent candidate for Castleton in the forthcoming local elections, has been stunned by the level of interest in his website since it was launched just over two weeks ago. In that short time the website has already clocked up 2,400 page views, and for those who prefer to measure in hits, that figure is 11,000!

The site includes news items and features about Castleton 'issues' as well as information about Mr Salt and his reasons for standing for election.

Designed and developed by the RO Web Solutions team, the site gives Mr Salt a well polished professional medium via which he can communicate with an ease and a frequency that would be expensive and time-consuming using traditional printed leaflets, though Mr Salt has delivered an introductory leaflet to all 4,300 homes in Castleton.

Talking about the immense interest his website has generated, Mr Salt said: "Information technology is one of my areas of interest - I teach people with low vision how to use computers and access the valuable world of the Internet - and the RO Web Solutions content management system that powers the site makes it very easy to add content any time I want 24 hours a day 7 days a week from any internet connected computer.

"Whilst I am still using the traditional printed leaflet, the site enables me to fight the election on a much leveller playing field with the might and money behind the candidates standing for political parties.

"That none of my opponents has understood the need to engage with people via their own website shows just how out of touch they are with the changes that have happened in our society over the past decade, and why they are out of touch with what is needed to ensure Castleton benefits from this revolution in communication."

Mr Salt says the site is not just for the election, he will be continuing to add content on a regular basis before and after his election campaign and hopes the people of Castleton will use it as a resource to help him “fight for the best interests of Castleton and Castleton people”.
