This year 7 football team has made it to the final of the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) cup final.
Pupils at St Cuthbert’s R.C. high school are all smiles after one of their sports teams made it through to the final leg of a nationwide tournament.
The year 7 football team has made it to the final two of 702 teams competing in the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) cup final.
They will play the game of their lives in the final at Stamford Bridge, the home ground of Chelsea Football Club on 17 May.
The team of under 12s have gone through eight rounds to get to this stage and will battle it out against Whitgift High School from Croydon in the final.
P.E. Teacher, Mr McLachlan is pleased with the team’s success, he said: “This is such a big achievement for our school. We are just a little school from Rochdale, not a sports college of a feeder school to any football academies.
“The children have done so well, on route to the final they have beaten teams from Blackburn, Harrogate, Derbyshire, Spen Valley, Manchester and Hartlepool and have been winners in extra time and on penalties on a couple of occasions.”
