Fun for Heywood youngsters

Date published: 27 March 2010

The young people of Heywood were treated to something different to do today (27 March 2010) as a grassy area of Lytham Drive was transformed into a junior assault course.

Area youth worker Debbie Chadwick was really pleased with the turn out, she said: “The children in this area don’t have a fixed play area and we wanted to provide something new and fun for them to do.

“Today has been a success so far, and even in the cold the young people have stayed out and had a lot of fun.”

Ms Chadwick added: “It is something different for a Saturday morning and a nice way for all the children to come together.

“Hopefully we will arrange more events like this, the ward councillors would like to see it happen again in the summer time.”

Alan Morton from Morton Sports, who provided the assault course, said: “The assault course is really popular wherever we go.

"Children were queuing up for us when we arrived at 11am.

“They are all having a good time, it is really good fun for the children and they are so determined and willing even those that end up in the mud get up and carry on.

“Today is about doing exercise as well as having fun and all the children are exercising without really knowing it!”
