Seven sisters get makeover
Date published: 24 March 2010
The seven high rise blocks that make up the College Bank estate have been receiving a makeover over the last few months.
The roofs of the blocks are being renewed using a liquid plastic roof covering, making improvements to stairwells and balconies, and carrying out works to the exterior brickwork and decoration.
The main issue being addressed by the project is however the energy efficiency of the blocks and the impact on tenant heating bills. Insulation is being injected into the cavities which run for the full height of the blocks. The insulation is injected into the wall cavity and then sets and bonds the inner wall and outer brickwork together. This provides an improved level of thermal insulation.
RBH’s Principal Housing Manager for Rochdale North, Kath Shaughnessy said: “The benefits of the insulation are already being seen and housing officers have had a number of comments from tenants who have noticed how much warmer their flats are.”
