Crime crackdown
Date published: 23 March 2010
Greater Manchester Police has launched a drive to hunt down people wanted for car crime and burglary.
Officers are asking for the public's help in tracking down suspects who have continued to avoid arrest.
The operation is targeting suspects chiefly those wanted for theft, burglary and car crime.
- Gareth Karl Meehan (born 26/4/84) wanted in connection with a burglary.
- Patrick Cawley (born 26/2/88) wanted in connection with a burglary at a club and taking a car.
- Liam Atkinson (born 2/2/91) wanted in connection with a car theft.
- Anthony Young (born 29/6/89) wanted in connection with car theft and shoplifting.
Detective Superintendent Mark Bell said: "We are seeing a significant reduction in crime and we want to build on that by hunting down the sort of people who are evading us for the sort of crime which affects many people.
"We've been trying to find these people, but we need your help now in clearing out these people from our communities so we can make Greater Manchester a safer place to live.
"Last month, the force launched Operation Sabre and we're are grateful for the assistance people gave us, which resulted in 20 suspects being arrested.
"We are following up that operation with this week of action and we're seeking those who hurt our communities through burglary and car crime.
"The week of action is not just about wanted offenders. Our aim is to solve as many crimes as we can in the week which encompasses a range of tactics including hunting down these offenders.
"The wanted offenders will feature on GMP's Wanted website so I would urge people to regularly visit as there is a chance you will know one of the people we're looking for.
"Any information you can provide to us, and you can do it anonymously, may just be the missing piece in the jigsaw to finding these people."
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 872 5050 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
