Deadline extended for town centre developer
Date published: 23 March 2010
Following the revelation last week that Genr8, Rochdale Borough Council’s preferred developer for the town centre retail and leisure scheme, had failed to meet a 1 March deadline to provide further clarification of their ability to fund the scheme's significant pre-development costs, the deadline was extended for a further three months at a council Cabinet meeting yesterday evening.
Councillor Irene Davidson, Leader of Rochdale Borough Council said: “We are really pleased with the work that Genr8 have been undertaking with the council and their contribution to the recent consultation on the future of Rochdale town centre was excellent. We know that there is more work to be done to put us in a position to progress a future development scheme and we are happy to give our nominated development partner, Genr8, a reasonable period to work up their plans, including listening to and considering the views of local people."
Genr8 Developments have said they will take on board the views of the public before drawing up detailed plans and carrying out further consultation before the end of the year.
