Armed men steal thousands of pounds

Date published: 23 March 2010

Two armed men threatened an ATM deliveryman and stole tens of thousands of pounds in Rochdale.

At 7:30am on Monday 22 March 2010, the offenders followed the driver to Sainsbury’s on Hare Hill Road, Littleborough.

The men, wielding a pickaxe and a crow bar, walked into the store behind the deliveryman and pushed him into the ATM security room.

After threatening the man, they made off with tens of thousands of pounds.

The getaway car was a silver Lexus IS 250. It was abandoned on Park Street, Littleborough.

Inquiries revealed the car had been stolen from Cavendish Road, Monton, on 23 February 2010.

The men were both wearing black, all-in-one, waterproof outfits, with balaclavas.

Detective Constable Ryan Grumbridge said: "These men got away with a lot of cash and need to be caught.

"I am appealing to anyone that may have seen them abandoning the cars, or indeed witnessed the robbery itself to contact police as you could have vital information for the investigation."
